Parks in Lee-on-the-Solent

Green spaces, recreation grounds and play areas

Lee-on-the-Solent has a decent provision of green spaces and parks for a town of its size, offering everything from formal playing fields to informal open grassland for picnics and play.

Lee Recreation Ground on Cambridge Road is the principal open green space in the town. It provides a large, flat grassed area used for informal recreation, dog walking, and community events. There are football pitches, a bowling green, tennis courts, and a children's play area. The recreation ground is well used by families, dog walkers, and sports groups throughout the year. The play equipment is maintained by Gosport Borough Council and caters to a range of age groups.

The seafront itself functions as a linear park, with the promenade, benches, splash park, skate park, and play areas along Marine Parade providing outdoor recreation space that draws residents and visitors daily. The splash park, open during summer months, is a particular draw for families with young children.

Lee Tower Memorial Gardens, on the site of the demolished Art Deco Lee Tower complex, provide a small but well-maintained garden space close to the seafront. The gardens serve as a quiet spot for sitting and reflecting, with the Solent as a backdrop.

Alver Valley Country Park lies to the east of Lee-on-the-Solent and offers a much larger green space with grassland, woodland, ponds, and walking paths. The park covers a substantial area and provides a more rural walking experience than the town's own green spaces. It is managed for both recreation and wildlife habitat, with information boards explaining the ecology.

Broom Common and the green spaces along the northern edge of Lee-on-the-Solent provide additional informal recreational areas, connecting the town to Stubbington through green corridors.

The Daedalus development has incorporated new public open space as part of the regeneration planning. Green areas within the development provide local amenity for new residents and connect to the wider path network.

Gosport Borough Council maintains the main parks and green spaces, with mowing, litter collection, and equipment maintenance carried out on a regular schedule. Friends groups and community volunteers contribute to planting, tidying, and event organisation in several of the green spaces.
